Frequently asked questions

About Sapa Group Bus — Hanoi to Sapa Private Cabin Sleeper Bus.

What time does the bus leave Hanoi and how long does it take?

There are two departures from Hanoi: 6:45 arriving around 13:15, and 22:00 arriving around 4:30. The trip takes roughly 6-7 hours depending on traffic and road conditions, and the return bus leaves Sapa at 14:00.

Which cabin should I choose?

All cabins are 90 x 180 cm pods with a privacy curtain: a Single Cabin (Upper Berth) is $17.50, a Single Cabin (Lower Berth) is $21 - closer to the ground, so less sway on mountain curves and easier to get in and out - and the Double Cabin (Lower Berth) at $27 suits two people sharing one berth. Note that if all upper-deck single cabins are sold out you'll be assigned a lower-deck cabin, and specific berths are assigned by the operator, not chosen at booking.

Where are the pickup and drop-off points?

In Hanoi the bus picks up at 160 Tran Quang Khai Street, or at Noi Bai Airport for a $2 surcharge (Domestic Lobby Gate E5 or International Lobby Gate A, Column 10). In Sapa you're dropped at 426 Dien Bien Phu Street, which is also where the 14:00 return bus departs.

Do I need a printed ticket?

No. Once your booking is confirmed by email or WhatsApp, just give the driver your name at pick-up. Be at your pick-up point at least 15 minutes before the confirmed time - the bus will not wait - and read the operator's pick-up message carefully, as the confirmed time may differ slightly from the listed departure.

How far in advance should I book?

Reserve at least 3-5 days ahead - cabins sell out fast on weekends and in peak seasons (September-November, Christmas, and Tet). Availability isn't updated in real time, so if you book less than 24 hours before departure your seat may not be confirmable, in which case you get a full refund. You can pay now or later; payment is coordinated by email or WhatsApp after confirmation.

What are the luggage and food rules on board?

Maximum 25 kg of checked luggage plus 1 small carry-on per person, and keep valuables with you in the cabin. Eating is not permitted inside the bus.

Do children travel free?

Children under 4 travel free when sharing a berth with a parent, with one child per adult berth. Also pack a jacket in your carry-on - Sapa can be cold in the early morning even in summer.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancelling more than 48 hours before departure gets a refund minus a USD 2 per ticket handling fee, 24-48 hours before departure gets a 50% refund, and there is no refund within 24 hours of departure.
